Technicolor is looking for a Senior Microfluidics Applications Specialist to develop, build and test microfluidic technologies. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and manufacturing experts to design and build integrated microfluidic devices for medical diagnostics.

The position will be based at the Microfluidics lab in Camarillo, CA


Purpose of Job:

Experienced, entrepreneurial scientist or engineer required to participate in an internal start-up initiative focused on the manufacturing of disposable microfluidic based “lab-on-chip” diagnostic devices.  This role requires 5-7 years’ experience in the design and development of creative and innovative microfluidic technology applications in the medical device or similar industry, with a deep understanding of both the key technical and commercial factors involved. This role will support the entire production / solution development process providing critical technical direction in support of business development activities through to release to manufacture and continuous improvement.


Principle Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for developing microfluidic device solutions and associated manufacturing workflows to serve the medical diagnostic disposable device market.
  • Collaborate closely with business development to provide critical technical background and experience required to develop and offer innovative microfluidic device manufacturing services.
  • Work closely with Microfluidics mechanical/design engineers to develop innovative, cost-effective manufacturing workflows.
  • Research latest Lab-on-chip trends and collaborate with engineering to develop recommendations for investments in manufacturing equipment/technology to extend and diversify Technicolor’s product development and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Represent the company as a subject-matter-expert helping to increase Technicolor’s market presence via an existing strong network of diagnostic industry engineering professionals and through participation in key industry tradeshows and similar events.
  • Monitor industry trends and regularly communicate and recommend strategic changes the company may consider based upon these trends.

Qualifications / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ hands-on experience in microfluidic technology application environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of the medical diagnostic consumable device manufacturing industry and terminology, along with an existing and extensive network of professional contacts in the medical device and diagnostic industry
  • Ideally have worked in a small company/start up environment with successful track record of new products / services introductions in a dynamic market environment.
  • Experience with a wide range of manufacturing processes and equipment types.
  • 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) experience.
  • M.S. or PhD in chemistry, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline, with 5-7 years’ experience in microfluidic product / solutions development and/or manufacture.

  • Ability to work both as an individual contributor and as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Comfortable working within a small and rapidly growing startup within a larger organization.
  • Comfortable managing numerous projects simultaneously and independently defining priorities based on Technicolor’s strategic goals
  • Strong communication, presentation and written skills.
